Blood of Olympus

Gods’ Fury Unleashed: ‘Blood of Olympus’ Ignites the Riordanverse for 2025

Los Angeles, Oct. 10, 2025 – The demigods’ odyssey crashes to a mythic climax with Blood of Olympus, Disney’s long-teased cinematic adaptation of Rick Riordan’s pulse-pounding finale to The Heroes of Olympus series, storming theaters on July 18, 2025. Directed by Percy Jackson and the Olympians helmer James Bobin, this live-action epic fuses the YA author’s 2014 bestseller with the Disney+ series’ momentum, grossing over $500 million across two seasons and priming fans for the ultimate showdown against Gaea herself.

Picking up from the series’ Greek-Roman rift, the film catapults the Prophecy of Seven – Percy (Walker Scobell, channeling the snark of Logan Lerman’s OG), Annabeth (Leah Jeffries), Jason (Xavier Allen), and their hybrid crew – into a do-or-die quest to avert apocalypse. Nico di Angelo (Ariel Waller) and Reyna Ramírez-Arellano (Kahlan Roth) haul the Athena Parthenos statue across stormy seas, dodging Gaea’s resurrected horrors, while Leo Valdez (Cromwell James) tinkers with the Argo II amid betrayals that shatter Olympus’ fragile peace. “It’s not just demigods vs. earth mother; it’s family forging in the forge of fate,” Riordan shared at D23 Expo, nodding to the book’s dual POVs from Nico and Reyna that peel back layers of shadow and sacrifice.

The cast is a demigod dream: Returning Percy alums like Eva Mendes as a fierce Hestia and Adam Copeland as a brooding Ares rumble alongside newcomers – Anya Taylor-Joy as a spectral Medea with vengeance arcs, and Jacob Tremblay voicing the irrepressible Festus dragon. Bobin’s vision amps the spectacle with Weta Digital’s godly FX: Tartarus rifts swallowing skylines, Athena’s owl swarms in IMAX glory, and a finale atop the Acropolis where blood literally rains from the heavens. Penned by Riordan and The Mandalorian‘s Jon Favreau, it honors the novel’s loose ends – Percabeth’s future, Leo’s resurrection twist – while teasing The Chalice of the Gods crossovers.

Early buzz from a secret Santa Monica screening? “Riordan’s Ragnarok: heart-wrenching, hilarious, and heroic,” per Variety. With a soundtrack by Bear McCreary blending lyre riffs and thunderclaps, Blood of Olympus isn’t ending the saga – it’s ascending it. As Percy quips in the trailer, “If the gods bleed, so do we.” Grab your drachmas; the final prophecy prophesies a blockbuster.
