Tarzan (2026)

A fresh take on the ape-man, Tarzan (2026) stars Chris Hemsworth as Tarzan, Charlize Theron as a villainess, and Alexander Skarsgård in a nod to his 2016 role. Directed by David Yates, it reimagines the legend. Does it swing, or fall? As a critic who’s swung more vines than jungles, I’ll say this: Tarzan is a visceral, action-packed remake, but cliches keep it grounded.
Tarzan battles poachers led by Theron’s ruthless magnate, with romance and jungle chases.
Yates crafts lush visuals – a gorilla stampede is intense – and James Newton Howard’s score roars. Hemsworth’s physicality shines, Theron’s icy villainy elevates, but Skarsgård’s cameo feels forced.
At 130 minutes, the plot retreads familiar beats, and the romance lacks spark. Production buzz of CGI overuse shows in uneven effects. Tarzan thrills, but doesn’t reinvent.
