a stranger’s gift: my last goodbye

a stranger’s gift: my last goodbye
It was supposed to be a simple flight home to see my father, who was nearing the end of his life. But as delays piled up, I watched my hope slip away. The hours stretched on, and it became clear I might not make it in time. My heart sank as I imagined missing the last chance to hold my father’s hand and say goodbye.
Then, out of nowhere, a stranger stepped forward. He saw my distress and, without hesitation, offered to help. He arranged a five-hour ride home at his own expense, not asking for anything in return. In that moment, he became my lifeline — a person who understood the importance of time when there was so little left.
Thanks to his kindness, I made it home just in time. I was able to sit by my father’s side, take his hand, and say all the words I thought I’d never get the chance to say.
That stranger didn’t just give me a ride — he gave me something far more valuable: the ability to say goodbye, to have closure, and to be with the person I loved one last time. A gift I’ll carry with me forever.
