Lulu Gribbin: The Teen Who Lost a Hand and a Leg, But Never Lost Her Spirit

In June 2024, 15-year-old Lulu Gribbin’s life changed forever. What was meant to be a fun beach day with her mom and twin sister at Seacrest Beach, Florida, turned into a nightmare when a shark attacked her. The brutal attack left Lulu with the loss of one hand and part of her right leg. But the one thing it couldn’t take away was her unbreakable spirit.

Despite the devastating injuries and the long road ahead, Lulu faced the challenge with a heart full of determination. After 77 days of intensive treatment and recovery, she stood tall again — not just physically, but emotionally, smiling brightly with an inner strength that inspired everyone around her.

Her words say it all: “I’m still here, still breathing, and that’s what keeps me going.”

Now, Lulu is not only mastering life with prosthetic limbs, but she’s also dreaming bigger than ever. With her sights set on becoming a Paralympic athlete, she’s using her story to empower others. She founded the Lulu Strong Foundation, dedicated to supporting amputees and helping them regain their independence and confidence.

But her passion doesn’t stop there. Lulu also played a pivotal role in championing “Lulu’s Law” — a new shark alert system that will help protect others on Alabama’s coast.

From the deepest pain to the highest triumph, Lulu has turned her experience into a platform for change, becoming a beacon of courage, resilience, and hope for many. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that life is not defined by the challenges we face, but by how we respond to them.

Lulu’s journey is proof that it’s never about what happens to you, but what you choose to do afterward.

Her message is clear:

“It’s not about what happens to you — it’s about what you do afterward.”

Lulu’s strength and determination continue to inspire others, showing the world that no matter the odds, anything is possible when you embrace life with courage and purpose.
