Daisy the Rhino and Modjadji the Zebra: An Unlikely Friendship

In Kruger National Park, rangers stumbled upon a heartbreaking sight—a newborn rhinoceros calf, barely hours old, trembling and abandoned. She was rushed by helicopter to a sanctuary ICU, where caregivers named her Daisy. Fragile and weak, she needed constant care: bottle feedings, medicine, blankets to keep her warm. Yet even with all that, one thing was missing—companionship.
Just days earlier, the same sanctuary had taken in another orphan: a tiny zebra foal who had lost her mother in a storm. She was named Modjadji.
Fate brought the two babies together. And slowly, something beautiful unfolded. They began sleeping curled up side by side, nuzzling one another, never straying far. In their shared loneliness, they found comfort. In their silent grief, they discovered friendship. 🥹
Today, Daisy and Modjadji are not just surviving—they are healing. Their bond is proof that love knows no species, and that sometimes the best medicine of all is simply having someone by your side.
